We are seeking a laboratory-based in vitro Scientist who is experienced, excited to join our CVM team, and motivated to directly drive drug discovery at the bench. Here you will advance our understanding of disease biology and the discovery of new drugs by contributing to target validation, assay development, and drug screening efforts within the disease area and in collaboration with the larger research organization.
This position will be located at Cambridge, MA and will not have the ability to be located remote

About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and execute biochemical and cellular assays for drug discovery.
- Support assay development, profiling of therapeutic leads, target validation and mechanism-of-action studies
- Support animal pharmacology studies by developing and performing ex vivo assays
- Conduct data analyses and documentation of experiments.
- Collaborate effectively while working in a matrixed environment.
- Have good laboratory, data recording and data documentation practices.
- Present results in lab and department meetings.
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior associates
- Assist in the writing of research documents and publications.
- Principal Scientist would be expected to manage a direct report
Role Requirements:
- BS or MS degree in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering or a related field and >5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- 10+ years’ experience (academic/industry) to be considered for Principal Scientist
- Previous people management experience for Principal Scientist preferred
- Experience in independently developing and executing biochemical and cellular assays for drug discovery, preferably in an industry setting.
- Experience in the generation, analysis, and presentation of scientific data.
- Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with an ability to quickly grasp new techniques and apply them to your work.
- Creative problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a matrixed team environment.
- An interest in finding treatments for the following diseases: obesity, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, atherosclerosis.
This is a dual posting. The final level and title of the offer role would be determined by the hiring team based on the skills, experience, and capabilities required to perform the role at the level the role has been offered (Senior Scientist / Principal Scientist).
The salary for this position is expected to range between Senior Scientist I: $85,400- $158,600/year | Senior Scientist II: $93,800-$174,00/year and between Principal Scientist I: $103,600- $192,400/year | Principal Scientist II: $114.100-$211,900/year
The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.
Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
