As a Therapeutic Area Medical Lead, you will build, manage and lead the Oncology/Hematology medical team within the GR Organization. You will drive the strategic planning, provide medical, clinical and scientific guidance to all allied departments and coordinate the execution of tactical planning. You will act as a link between GMA and local team and ensure alignment between global medical strategy and local needs to drive Medical Affairs strategy for the respective brand/therapeutic area.

You will be responsible for the leadership and management of all assigned brands in strategic development, and execution & you will be accountable for the coaching, performance management, evaluation and development of the relevant associates.

About the Role

Major accountabilities:

  • Act as a role-model for Novartis Culture by leading inspiring and curious teams, being aware of the impact on team and business, while igniting agility, and strive towards digital savviness within the team.
  • Being a strong cross functional partner and provide direction and advice to the team including setting goals and managing performance (vs Medical & Franchise objectives).
  • Ensure optimal collaboration with Clinical Teams in the execution of relevant clinical activities including initial input in programs strategy and designs of clinical studies, selection of investigators, start-up and initiation activities, etc.
  • Accountability for all Evidence Generation projects, i.e. Local Medical Affairs studies (ongoing and new) / Investigator Initiated Studies as well as Research and Collaboration projects.
  • Lead the development of a network with external experts to disseminate clinical data during pre- launch and launch and reinforce clinical awareness with Medical Experts, influencers, and key external customers.
  • Lead medical activities internally for the reimbursement of relevant products and ensure/ drive optimal collaboration with Access and Policy department end ensure competency of Team members during reimbursement/negotiation procedures.
  • Promote and maintain ethical standards of the Medical Team within the organization and in the interactions within the local Health Care System.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Medical doctor and/or Scientific degree in PhD level
  • More than 5 years’ experience in clinical medicine and/or research (highly desirable) and at least 3 years in the Pharma industry (required)
  • Proven ability to successfully interact with relevant Medical Experts (required)
  • Knowledge of assigned therapeutic area and scientific expertise (desirable)
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of drug development, GCP and local regulations, including regulations for promotional materials.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking - Ability to present scientific data to scientific and lay audiences.
  • Track record of strong leadership & collaboration in a matrix and above country environment. Previous experience in people management (highly desirable).
  • Fluency in English, both in verbal and written communications
